Apart from the great stadiums and exciting venues for the aquatic challenges, apart from the Olympic Park and the inside London venues, we remain with only two locations to be used for the 2012 Olympic Games which extend on a more dusty landscape and will be used in Cycling Mountain Bike and Cycling Road contests. Going far from the modernism of London and the top class buildings constructed especially for this event we reach the country side in places like Box Hill or Hadleigh Farm.
Private transfer to Hadleigh Farm
Hadleigh Farm is a place of great landscape and geography, with wonderful views and perfect tracks for Mountain Biking. The mixture of shrub and grassland made this place ideal for the 2012 Olympic Mountain Biking events. The place is managed by the Salvation Army and while not hosting events as great as this one, it operates as an education working farm. Hadleigh Farm covers an area of 700 acres and will have the possibility to host 20,000 visitors per day during the 2012 Summer Olympics. Why taking a break from the competition you can enjoy yourself by admiring the 700 year old Hadleigh Castle or in the rare breed center and tea room for visitors.
You will be able to find Hadleigh Castle overlookig the Thames estuary from a hill, south of the town of Hadleigh. It was constructed during the reign of Henry III by Hubert de Burghafter, after 1215. The Hadleigh Castle and the surrounding parkland offered a great landscape to its habitants and had an significant economic, as well as defensive role. Hadleigh was considerably extended by Edward III, who converted it into an even bigger property, intended to protect from possible French attacks as well as to offer the King with a comfortable and luxurious private residence close to London.
Today not much is left from the castle as time and wars turned it into ruins. Not more than a column and a few bricks stand just to remind people of magnificent residence that was once managing over these lands, to remind about times of knights and princesses, of chivalry and might.
Hadleigh Farm was chosen in 2008 as the location for the Mountain Bike events for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. The initial suggested venue was located in Weald Country Park but it was rejected because of inadequately challenging by the International Cycling Union, who affirmed that they are delighted with Hadleigh Farm. Throughout the Olympic Games, short-term grandstands holding 3,000 people will be assembled.
The Mountain Bike events will take place on 11th and 12th of August at Hadleigh Farm.
