The stadium was initially designed to be of the best in England and envisioned to have 45,000 and a modern state-of-the art architecture but, because of the team’s relegation in 2001 and other financial problems a more real approach was taken into consideration. The venue became the house for Coventry City FC’s home games at the beggining of the 2005–06 season, after the 106 year history at the Highfield Road stadium. The initial competitive football game that took place at the Ricoh Arena was in opposition to Queens Park Rangers on 20 August 2005. The attendance for this game was really small, the stadium only 23,012 of the seats occupied. The game finished with the score of 3–0 to Coventry, with Claus Bech Jørgensen being the first footballer to score on the City of Coventry Stadium.

Transfer to the Millennium Stadium (2012 Olympic Football matches)

For some of the football games played in the 2012 Summer Olympics you may need to get transport to Wales or Scotland as some of the matches will be held on the Hampden and Millennium Stadium, both outside England.
