Transfer from Gatwick Airport to St. Leonards
The town of St.Leonards on Sea is in fact the dream of one man becoming reality. James Burton began constructing a brand new town of St Leonards in 1826 despite the fact that the territory was at a time possessed and managed by the Levett’s, a family that came with William the Conqueror. There is proof in the north of the St.Leonards, at Beauport Park, of ironworking which was performed from the Roman period until medieval times.
These days, portion part of the borough St Leonards is a seaside holiday resort which accommodates, like Hastings, for the day or weekend travellers. It has a 3 miles long beach and a complete promenade with a cycle track.
Inside the town the most attractive features are probably the marvelous well laid out gardens including: St Leonards Gardens, Warrior Square Gardens, Gensing Gardens and Markwick Gardens.
The site of the Warrior Gardens was started as a subscription garden in 1852. The Council bought a portion of land on the south part to build a statue of Queen Victoria in 1902. Everything except the uppermost rose garden area was purchased by the Council in 1920 with the higher garden being given to the Council in 1930. Current developments consist of key re-landscaping and wall refurbishment, accomplished in 2001.
