Transfer from Esher (KT10) to Gatwick Airport
Claremont or Clermont is a Palladian mansion built in the 18th century. It is located a couple of minutes away from Esher and nowadays it houses the Claremont Fan Court School. The original estate was constructed in 1708 and it was designed by John Vanbrugh. The White Cottage, the walled gardens and the stables were also built in the early 18th century. The house was expanded in 1714, when 2 more wings were added to the property. At the same time, a turret was built on a knoll. Its purpose was to offer unobstructed views of the countryside and the Surrey County. Moreover, in the clear sky, one could see St Paul’s Cathedral and the Windsor Castle.
A marvellous feature included in the Claremont estate was its landscape garden. This garden has an English design and has preserved pretty much of its original layout. This magnificent open space was designed by John Vanbrugh, William Kent, Capability Brown and Charles Bridgeman. The garden was completed in 1727. The Belvedere Tower is the main landmark in the Claremont garden.
