Transfer from City of London (EC2) to Heathrow Airport
Apart from Hatton Garden, the City of London can praise with another place where money flow continuously, a place where that pounds can call it “home, sweet home” – The Bank of England. We didn’t mention it in our previous article because the Bank of England is located in a different district than Hatton Garden, just a little bit to the east, in the EC2 area which also includes places like Broadgate, Liverpool Street, Tower 42, Shoreditch, Guildhall and Barbican. EC2 can be seen like the home of strange architecture in the City of London and as a house to former records, like having on its territory the former building of London until 2009 when it was overtaken by Heron Tower.
After Tower 42 one more building makes EC2 look like the district of heights and that’s the Broadgate Tower, located near the office and retail estate of Broadgate. Its height is of 164 meters, which situates it on the 4th spot right after the Herron, Tower 42 and St. Mary Axe building. Various distinctive organizations have taken part in the growth of the estate. Between 2003 and 2009 the entire property was possessed by British Land, which has been engaged since 1984. Figures from British Land reveal that the estate offers 360,000 m2 of office, retail and leisure housing distributed over 129,000 m2 and more than 30,000 people are currently employed there. In October 2009, British Land sold a 50% share of the estate to the Blackstone Group. The contemporary and generally pedestrian estate is situated on the initial site of Broad Street station, which was shut down in 1986 and next to and above the railway approaches into Liverpool Street station. The Broadgate area features various works of public art, the most significant of which is Richard Serra’s 17 m high, free-standing sculpture – the Fulcrum.
