Welcome to the third article of this fun series! After a tour among the film festivals and the beautiful celebrations that Londoners and travellers all around the world are fond of, it has come the time to approach the music business. The capital city of the United Kingdom can pride itself and even sing it out loud that when it comes to summer festivals, it makes sure that each inhabitant or visitor has a variety of genres and bands to choose from. Not to mention that the concerts are great, the live music is of high quality and the atmosphere in the audience is impressive. You can have fun with your own friends and certainly meet new and interesting people all the time especially that you have one thing in common: good music.
Field Day takes place in Victoria Park, Grove Road, Tower Hamlets, Tower Hamlets, E3 5SN. This year (2014) it will be organized on the 7th and 8th of June, a whole weekend of hipster music and fans dancing under the sun. Some of the most appreciated genres are folk, electro, pop and indie. Among the best names that concerted along the seven editions are Franz Ferdinand, Beirut and Metronomy. And these are only a few names from the latest festival. So if you want to participate at great concerts, listen to amazing band, be part of the funny games that are held and also dance at the after parties in the nearby clubs, do not miss this event.
Meltdown Festival (Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, South Bank, SE1 8XX) is another interesting music festival that will be held in June 2014, between the 13th and 22nd. It has reached the “venerable age of 21 years old”. Besides the great concerts and the festive atmosphere, this festival also present unique differences in comparison with the other ones. First of all, each edition had a so called curator. Along the years, some of the personalities that held this position are: Yoko Ono, Patti Smith, David Bowie, Morrissey and John Peel. In addition to this, each edition will also surprise you with breath taking exhibitions and themes.
Bushstock Festival takes place on the 14th of June in 2014, in Ginglik, 1 Shepherds Bush Green, W12 8PH. Although it only lasts one day, you can enjoy the music of artists such as: Shepherds Bar, Ginglik and The Defectors Weld. This festival is mainly dedicated to those people that do not particularly love mainstream music. Wireless Festival (Finsbury Park, Endymion Road, N4 1EE) is going to be organized in July 2014, on the 4th, 5th and 6th. This ninth edition will bring on stage famous names like JayZ, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, Rita Ora, Justin Timberlake and Calvin Harris. So this festival is definitely worth your time.
Of course, the above mentioned music festivals represent just a small hit of what the capital city of the United Kingdom can offer you during those summer months. Other warm recommendations for a good time and quality music are the following: British Summer Time Hyde Park (location: Hyde Park, Rangers Lodge, Hyde Park, W2 2UH; date: 6-12 July 2014) – the first edition took place in 2013 and involved names like Jennifer Lopez, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones and Bon Jovi; Kew the Music (location: Kew Gardens, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Richmond, TW9 3AB; date: 16 – 20 July 2014) – among last year’s bands and singers there were Leona Lewis, Blondie, Jools Holland; Lovebox (location: Victoria Park, Grove Road, Tower Hamlets, Tower Hamlets, E3 5SN; date: 18 – 19 July 2014) – in the 2013 edition, Azealia Banks, Goldfrapp and Lil’ Kim were among the guests.
