Big Pit National Museum
Cardiff past glory is related to being a city holding a leading position in coal mining. Visitors can descend into a genuine mine of Blaenafon (40 miles from Cardiff) and be guided by a real miner, to the depth of 90 meters.
The Museum received the Gulbenkian Museum Award in 2004.
Blaenafon part of UNESCO heritage. Big Pit museum entrance is free. A visit can last at least two hours half and warm clothes are recommended. Children bellow five years are not allowed to participate.
Llandaff Cathedral
Llandaff Cathedral is 3 miles away from the city center, located in a quiet area. St. Teilo founded the cathedral in the sixth century, but the current building was started in 1107. In 1734 the first of many restorations began, the last being done shortly after the Second World War was over.
