Stratford Upon Avon is a town in Warwickshire and also the administrative center of Stratford-on-Avon District. It is known worldwide as William Shakespeare’s place of birth. It’s origins are Anglo-Saxon and it greatly developed as a market town in the Middle Ages. Due to association with the name of Shakespeare, Stratford is a famous landmark, visited by over two million tourists each year. Basically, most tourists come here to learn more about Shakespeare, to visit the house where he was born, the school where he studied etc. Near City Hall you can see a beautiful statue of the poet, donated by actor David Garrick. The town’s center, where most of the tourist attractions are grouped, is pretty small and can be covered by foot. Among this attractions we name Hall Croft and Guild Chapel as being some of the most amazing in the area.
Hall Croft from the old town, is the town where Shakespeare’s daughter lived with her husband – Dr. John Hall. The place houses an exhibition where medical practices from that time are displayed.
On the wall near the chapel altar Guild Chapel, which dates from the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries, a frightening scene of Judgement is displayed, painted shortly after Shakespeare’s death.
