Transfer from Lee (SE12) to Luton Airport
Two rivers make up the boundaries of one of the most beautiful areas in Lee, Hither Green. Dating back to Roman times and developing mostly during the 19th and 20th century, Hither Green is a wonderful display of Victorian and Edwardian architecture. The community is also great, the residents being considered very friendly and welcoming.
During medieval times Hither Green was mostly a largely wooded area but by the 18th-century the majority of the trees had been felled, and the first properties were constructed. Many other houses were built during the 19th-century, a lot of of them being quite significant residences. A part of these can still be observed today.
The most important estate in Hither Green is Corbett Estate, built by MP Archibald Cameron Corbett, which bought 278 acres of land from North Park Farm, which later became the estate that can be observed today.
Close to Corbett Estate you will see the parish of St. Swithun’s, created in November 1888 by Ernest Newton. The foundation stone for the church was laid in July 1892.
