Transfer from Stansted Airport to Bristol
One of the most iconic buildings in Bristol is its Cathedral which was built on an old Roman site and is probably dating to the 12th century, when a monastery was built here. The church was later sanctified as a cathedral somewhere around the 16th century, and became known as the Cathedral of the Holy and Undivided Trinity.
The huge building is over 91 feet long, of which only the nave is 38 meters, rising to a height of over 15 meters. The naves and the choir have the same height, together creating the impression of a huge hall. The main parts of the cathedral are as follows: the nave, the altar, the choir, the Old Lady Chapel, Eastern Lady Chapel, Chapel of Berkeley, Newton Chapel, “night” stairs, the Chapter House and the organ. The organ dates back from 1685 and was modernized in 1907. Completely restored in 1989, it is one of the most beautiful in the world. Every Tuesday at 1.15 p.m. organ music recitals are held in the cathedral, sometimes accompanied by other piano players. Many musicians, some even from other countries hold concerts there. When entering the cathedral you will also find a souvenir shop, open from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, where you can buy guides to the cathedral, classical music CDs, religious books, jewelry, pictures, postcards and other items specific to religion.
The Cathedral Cafe, open from Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. offers afternoon snacks and refreshments as well as homemade cakes, teas and coffees. Near it a garden is located where you can also sit and relax admiring the beautiful surrounding area.
