Thus, basically, Molesey signifies Mul’s island. The prefix “West” was introduced in 1200. Molesham is one of the first names of the area.
West Molesey is separated from East Molesey by the famous Molesey Stone. It is located on Walton Road, outside the Molesey Library and it’s an interesting landmark to visit. The town features various overflow fields and barriers because of the River Mole flooding that took place in 1968. There hasn’t been any serious flooding ever since.
