Transfer from Brentwood (CM13 – CM15) to Gatwick Airport
In the past, Brentwood used to be an ancient parish that covered 460 acres of land. In 1894, the locality was incorporated in the Rural District of Billericary. Five years later, it was already part of the Urban District of Brentwood. South Weald, Ingrave and Hutton merged with Brentwood in 1934 and thus the parish was enlarged. In 1974, the district disappeared and the Brentwood district was formed. It included Stondon Massey, Kelvedon Hatch, Navestock, Blackmore, Doddinghurst, Mountnessing, Fryerning and, of course, Brentwood. The locality became a borough in 1993.
The parish church in Brentwood became a cathedral in 1917. In the late 20th century, the building was refurbished and rebuilt and it achieved a stunning Italianate Classical design. The Brentwood Roman Catholic Bishop has its seat in the Brentwood Cathedral.
There are numerous properties in Brentwood that have survived from the Tudor times. One of them is the Ingatestone Hall. Many of its 16th-century features have been preserved. The house and the gardens can be rented for various private occasions and can host performances, concerts and tours.
