Transfer from Radlett (WD7) to Gatwick Airport

It is believed that Radlett dates from 1453. Still, the modern town was established in the 19^th century. Being located on the affluent Watling Street, it was seen as a great opportunity for substantial development. Until the 19^th century, Radlett was a small rural community and its main features were the Kendals estates. They covered most of the area situated on the western side of Watling Street. The eastern side was dominated by Aldenham Lodge and Newberries. At the time, the only structures were a couple of buildings located near Shenley Hill and a pub.

Midland Railway came to Radlett in 1860. The station was opened the same year. The village’s modern history commences in 1865 when the Radlett Ecclesiastical Parish was established. By the 19^th century, the landowners gave up to their land and so the development started. The Newberries and the Aldenham Lodge were ready for growth and improvement in the early 20^th century. Later on, in the mid – 20^th century, they were demolished.
