Transfer from Heathrow Airport to Charing Cross Station
London Charing Cross or Charing Cross railway station is a railway terminus located in Central London, in the Westminster City. It is home to the Southeastern trains and the station is administered by Network Rail. It represents London’s 5th busiest rail terminal. The name of the station comes from its location. So, the building is located near the Charing Cross road junction. The station’s frontage overlooks the Strand and its back features the Hungerford Bridge. All the trains entering the station have to cross the bridge. All platforms are controlled with ticket barriers.
The first station building was constructed and opened in 1864 and it replaced the old and traditional Hungerford Market. It was opened by South Eastern Railway. The designer of the station was John Hawkshaw. It featured a roof arching made of wrought iron. The roof covered the 6 platforms, but the site occupied by the station was quite cramped. The structure sits on a brick viaduct and the rails are situated from 13 feet to 27 feet above the water level. The Charing Cross Hotel was constructed in 1865.
