Apart from these major institutions some smaller but significant businesses have found a home in Colindale mostly because of the cheap land prices which made the area attractive to developers.
Another reason for which a lot of these businesses decided to go with Colindale was that there was a great area available for development. Even so by 1923, when the tube railway was built in Colindale, property prices had increased and factory growth was not so easy, so some businesses searched somewhere else for premises.
The region is titled after a 16th century family that had the same name. Till the 20th century, Collindale didn’t have any buildings except for a massive house known as Collindale Lodge, Collindale Farm and a few cottages.
Today Colindale is subject to future developments.
