The ruins of the Worcester Park House are significant landmarks for the region. The magnificent Worcester House was constructed in 1607 and it used to be the 4th Earl of Worcester’s residence. Sir Robert Long became the owner of the property in 1670. The mansion was surrounded by the Worcester Park and the Great Park, 2 grounds used for hunting.
The house was destroyed by a fire in 1948 and the only remaining parts of the property were the chimneys and the walls. These were also slowly demolished. Moreover, the site used to feature a lake that gradually silted up. The ornamental lake was magnificent. It featured a balustrade and a beautiful multi – arched bridge. The house offered a full panorama of these 2 impressive features.
The Worcester House had a one of a kind inner walled garden and a large kitchen garden that included a couple of unique glass houses. In the mid – 20th century, the only visible ruins were mounds of brickwork and the lake. However, in the following years, the lake drained into the Hogsmill River. Much of the ground is now wooded.
