Loughton is divided into several neighbourhoods. The Old Loughton is the oldest part of the town and represents the original settlement that was developed and grew into the modern Loughton. Next to Debden, there is Debden Green, a hamlet that is surrounded by an ancient green. The most remarkable landmark in the area is the Debden House, a conference and adult learning centre. There is also a campsite on the grounds.

This contemporary estate features large detached properties and 4 residential streets: Stanmore Valley, Garden Way, Campions and Broadstrood. Another excellent housing estate is Great Woodcote Park. It is located in southern Loughton and it has replaced the old North Farm. Other areas that are worth a visit are the Roding Estate and Little Cornwall.
