Since 1913, Highbury has been home to the Woolwich Arsenal Football Club. Eventually, its name was simplified to Arsenal F. C. The Arsenal Stadium or the Highbury Stadium was constructed on St John’s Hall grounds. This building, which was also known as Highbury College dated from 1825 and it was located on the current Aubert Park. It used to be an ionic structure, very similar to the British Museum. In 1946, the building burnt down and a modern block of flats took its place.

Starting from the 20th century, Highbury became famous thanks to Arsenal Football Club and its success. In 2006, Arsenal moved near the Drayton Park, in Ashburton Grove. The old stadium was renamed into the Highbury Square and it was transformed into a major luxury housing complex. However, the original exteriors of the main stands have been preserved. The Clock End and the North Bank stands were demolished because they were not listed. The pitch became a garden with a swimming pool and a private gym. The properties located in the area are extremely expensive, the starting price being £300,000.

Ashford is connected with the City of London through the Ashford railway station. It is located on the line between Reading and Waterloo and its manager is South West Trains. The town also has connection with Chertsey and Weybridge. Using the A30 road is another way to get to the neighbouring localities. At the same time, you can use the London Buses routes to get to the centre of London.

Ashford is home to a large selection of impressive religious buildings. The St Matthew parish church dates from 1858. It has received assistance from the local Welsh School. The south arch in the church building dates from the 12th century and it also features numerous historical internal monuments. Between Woodthorpe Road and Stanwell Road, there is another church that was constructed in 1913. It is St Matthew’s daughter church. Originally, the structure was supposed to feature a beautiful spire, but it hadn’t got the chance to be constructed. The worship place was dedicated to St Hilda and it was finished in 1928.

Ashford is also home to a Roman Catholic Church. It is consecrated to St Michael and it was designed by Giles Gilbert Scott, a local architect. It sits between Clarendon Road and Fordbridge Road. The construction of the structure began in 1927, but it was finished in 1960 because of the Second World War. Ashford also features 2 Methodist churches: on Felthamhill Road and Clarendon Road.
